I got a camera cord last night so here are some pictures from our Day 3 adventures!
Our first stop was the World's Only Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. It was built over 100 years ago as a tribute to agriculture. I was expecting it to be decorated with pictures of corn...it was much cooler when I realized that all the pictures were actually made out of corn!!! :)
Inside is a basketball court and a stage where they hold concerts and events.
They use 12 different colors of corn grown in the Mitchell area to make all the pictures on the inside and outside of the building. The ears of corn are cut in half the long way and nailed to black fly paper that they traced the picture onto. Its like a giant paint by number!
Every year, there is an annual corn decorating event. Each year has a different theme and hundreds of people are part of decorating for that year. This years theme is "Saluting Youth Activities". All the pictures you see on the outside as well as the pillars are made out of corn. It's been called the world's largest bird feeder!!!
