Family Day Out #1

As we prepare to head back to the States for a couple months, we have been trying to squeeze in some fun family days with the kids.

Last week, we took them to see "The Croods" as part of their Jellybean Day surprise.

Here we are on the tro-tro into Accra.  I really wanted to take a picture facing the front of the tro tro so you could see how many people they fit in these things but I've been scolded more than once for taking pictures of other people so I refrained.

Before the movie, we bought ourselves a picnic lunch at the super market in the mall.  We actually scored some "for real" Doritos, although we never tasted this flavor before.  The only other time we've had chips (other than plantain chips which we love!) since being in Ghana was when this super market got a shipment (it took up an entire aisle!) of Lays Spring Onion and Cheddar chips -- again, a flavor we've never heard of.  Our theory is that Africa must get shipments of new flavors that fail taste tests elsewhere.  The sample groups apparently have not been deprived of chips for 5 months because they disappear pretty quickly at our table!

The Accra Mall (where all the wealthy Ghanaians and expats frequent) has a small 2 theater cinema.  You can see a movie for about 7 cedi (about $3.50) a person.  Most of the movies come from the US so its just like being at a small theater at home (even has air conditioning!).

The tro-tro trip home is much more difficult than getting to the mall so I was nervous about how the kids would do.  We had several tro-tro transfers with decent walks in between.  But these kids are now expert travelers and I needn't have been worried!  So proud of them!
